| Produced at the foot of the very place where this appellation gets its name, Saint Henri Chateauneuf du Pape is vinified in cellars near the old (new) castle of the Pope. Guy Bremond and Henri Estevenin renovated this midieval cellar in 2000 and have been putting out stunning wines in recent years. Closely affiliated with the Cave du Verger wine shop nearby.
Intense black cherry and jam notes intermixed with some fresh vanilla hints and a lovely ripe nose. Rich blackberry with tobacco and mint-spiced flavors. Huge potential for cellaring. 2005 is a classic vintage (96-99) for Southern Rhone wines, Chateauneuf-du-Pape in particular. "This offers medium-bodied notes of dark currant, fig cake, tar and iron. Chewy on the finish, with lingering game, currant and olive notes. Drink now through 2020. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 400 cases made." JM, WINE SPECTATOR APRIL 2008, 89 PTS |
